Summer is winding down and fall is right around the corner. So in just a few weeks, kids will be going back to school.
Many schools require students entering first grade, freshman year of high school, and first year of college to have comprehensive dental checkups prior to the start of the school year. If your child hasn’t yet had their pre-admission dental appointment, now is the time to make it.
Filling Up Fast
Late summer and early autumn is one of the busiest times of the year for most dental practices. That’s because dentists get flooded with calls from panicked parents who forgot to schedule their child’s mandatory dental checkup.
Being prohibited from starting school with the rest of their class is a pretty effective motivator for kids to have their teeth checked. The last thing parents want is for their kids to be kept out of school until they can get in to see the dentist. Scheduling your appointment as early as possible will help prevent delays.
Other Students
Even if dental checkups aren’t mandatory, it’s a good idea to schedule your child’s annual dental exam at the beginning of the school year. For one thing, it’s just as easy to bring multiple kids into the dentist as it is to bring one.
For another, many dental insurance policies run on a calendar year. So if you get your kids in during the fall, there’s a good chance that any additional dental services that are covered can get done before the new year (and new deductibles) begin after Jan. 1.
