Are Electric Toothbrushes Worth the Money?

Are Electric Toothbrushes Worth the Money

Recently, there has been a steep increase in the number and types of electric toothbrushes available on the market. While electric toothbrushes have been around for a long time, today there many more styles, brands, and designs than ever before.

So are electric toothbrushes really worth the money? Do they do that much better of a job cleaning your teeth than the traditional, old-fashioned bristle brush toothbrush?

Benefits of Electric Toothbrushes

The answer is, “Yes and no”. First of all, any toothbrush is only going to be effective if you use it regularly. An electric toothbrush that sits on your bathroom counter gathering dust is not going to be any better for your teeth than a traditional toothbrush you don’t use at least twice daily.

Having said that, there are some advantages to electric toothbrushes over traditional ones. First of all, they are novel and unique. So they may get you to brush your teeth more frequently just because it’s fun and new. This is especially true for children.

Second, they may be easier for some people to use than traditional toothbrushes. This includes people with limited mobility, the elderly, and others.

 Drawbacks

If you use an electric toothbrush regularly, there aren’t really any drawbacks other than possibly the expense. They may motivate you to brush your teeth more often. And they are effective at removing plaque without harming your gums.

But they do represent an investment. Some electric toothbrushes can cost a fair amount of money. And some require you to replace the brush heads according to a regular schedule.

The bottom line is that if you want to invest in an electric toothbrush, it may motivate you to focus on your oral health more often. This is especially valuable for families with children.

So you don’t need an electric toothbrush to have health teeth. But if you want one and can afford it, go for it!
