The COVID-19 crisis unfolding in the US and worldwide is affecting everyday life for most people. Officials are encouraging people to stay home as much as possible and follow social distancing protocols when out in public.
For dental providers, that means lots of canceled appointments and postponed treatments. So is it okay to delay dental procedures such as teeth cleaning and checkups until the crisis has passed?
Reschedule Routine Treatments
Yes. Rescheduling routine treatments like checkups and teeth cleanings is perfectly acceptable. In all likelihood, waiting a month or two longer before having your regular annual dental checkup won’t cause any major problems to your dental health.
Similarly, professional teeth cleaning can wait. In the meantime, make sure you keep up with your daily brushing and flossing and be sure to use mouthwash to kill germs.
Also, wash your hands thoroughly before brushing and flossing your teeth, as well as whenever you come home from being out in public.
Call Early as Possible
Please let us know if you need to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. This will help us better serve patients who urgently need dental care during this national crisis.
Rescheduling your appointment as early as possible also will help ensure you get the time and dates most convenient for you once this crisis has passed and life returns to normal.
This crisis will pass. In the meantime, stay safe and follow the social distancing protocols recommended by the US Centers for Disease Control.
