We all take brushing our teeth for granted. For most people, it’s something we simply do out of habit at least once or twice per day.
Brushing your teeth regularly leads to good oral health, fewer dental problems, and a brighter, fresher smile.
But what would happen if you just … stopped? What if you suddenly decided that you didn’t want to bother with the daily chore of brushing your teeth anymore?
A couple of things.
Oral Health Issues
First of all, your oral health would suffer. Perhaps not right away. And probably not all that severely, at least at first. But eventually, you likely would begin to develop toothaches, cavities, and possibly even gum disease.
Another likely scenario is that you would start to have bad breath. Like, noticeably bad. Sometimes people think they can’t smell their own breath. But if you just stopped brushing your teeth the buildup of rotting and decaying food on and between your teeth would get so bad that even you would notice your own breath.
Unexpected Consequences
You probably would expect to develop dental issues if you suddenly stopped brushing your teeth. But what about social issues? Or even mental issues?
If you don’t brush your teeth, your breath will become bad. So bad that other people probably aren’t going to want to talk to you, at least not in person.
Not everybody will tell you that you have bad breath so you may start to wonder why you aren’t as popular as you once were. Or why people like coworkers and friends are actively trying to avoid you.
That can lead to issues like loneliness, unhappiness, feelings of unfulfillment, and possibly even depression.
But don’t worry. There’s a cure for all of these things: Just brush your teeth regularly and you don’t have to worry about any of these negative consequences!
